The risk of losing data from a hard drive is a concern for all business leaders, which is why most organisations perform a daily backup.  Interceptor Online Backup is not designed to replace your tape/hard drive backup, but to augment it as part of a data recovery plan.  Because your data is always held off site but locally in case of a major outage, Shield’s Interceptor Online Backup is an integral part of your contingency planning.

Interceptor Online Backup should be used as an additional backup and part of a disaster recovery plan, the advantages over tape/hard drive backups are:

What can I backup?
The backup will consist of all your data, including your Word, Excel and database files etc.

Is my data secure?
The short answer is yes.  Your data will be backed up using encrypted software which utilizes SSL/TLS certificates to verify the server identities and thus protection against any threats of hacking.  In simple terms it creates a secure link between your server/pc and the online server for your data to be transferred over. 

How often is my backup being done?
An incremental backup will be performed over the internet daily with 5 days of historical data being kept.  Incremental backups ensure that only new or updated files will be backed up, which saves the amount of data that needs to be copied over the internet and speeds up the process.

How do I know if my backup is working?
You will receive a daily check to ensure it has worked correctly.  However, if you are still unsure you can receive daily email logs.

Will my first back up take days to upload?
For the initial backup Shield will attend site with a backup drive and create a copy of your data, this will then be transferred to the server, saving days of reduced internet bandwidth whilst copying all required files.

How long will the daily data transfer take?
This all depends on how much data you are copying each day, however, we have located our server with a locally based internet service provider who have large amounts of bandwidth therefore uploads should be very quick and will largely depend on your broadband speed.

What happens if things go wrong?
Should you delete or change a file by accident, we can quickly recover an older version of the file from the online backup without having to worry about what tape/backup drive needs to go into your server.  Should you have a complete PC/server failure we will manually copy the data from the online backup server on to a hard drive, it will then be up to your support company to copy the data off and get you running again.  We will have all of your data back to you within 8 working hours of the decision to restore the data.  We can only provide this service because our server is on a secure local site.
